Are you running full throttle? If you are flat out that is what the mechanic was talking about - full throttle continuously means maximum RPM and the greatest internal pressures on the engine and maximum wear on the engine.
Your engine will run for years and years and years if you think about the speed and rpms you are dialing in - 60-70 mph is no issue ( about 3/4ths throttle - 80-85 hmm that wants some thinking about especially if it is full throttle.
